About Tammy Coy

Nestled in the heart of the Midwest and just a stone's throw away from the capital city of Des Moines, Iowa, artisan Tammy Coy transforms metal, glass, leather, earthen stones, hand-hammered words, and unique found objects into wearable treasures.

In the late 90s, after a divorce and the death of her mother, Coy traveled back to her hometown. It was there, in a small farmhouse located between the Nishnabotna River Basin and the Loess Hills Scenic Byway, where she rediscovered the passions of her youth. Coy found several drawings, paintings, pieces of pottery, a hand hammered bracelet, and several shoeboxes filled with the trinkets and treasurers she so loved to collect as a child. It was at this turning point, that Coy realized something was keeping her from true happiness. She had never actualized her dream of being an artist. Little did Coy know that those found objects and that simple bracelet would hold the key that would unlock the door to her future.

In the fall of 2003, Coy's jewelry company, Eclectic Creations BYCOY, was born. She began to create more than just interesting jewelry, but objects of art. She had found her voice. The title piece,"I Belong to Me," set her on a path to learn more about the coveted art of jewelry making and design. Though mainly self-taught, Coy avidly pursues her passion by attending workshops, reading, studying, and refining her artisan skills. There are always new avenues to explore.

It is Coy's clever, quirky, raw, and edgy approach to design that allows her to connect with customers. Her main focus is to encourage, empower, and inspire those around her to take charge of their lives and move forward in times of transition. "We all struggle at times," says Coy. "A single word, phrase, mantra, or found object held close to the heart can provide the strength to move on." This is the heart of BYCOY creations.
